Job Description IBM has a need for Application Modernization Developers/Architects with Mainframe COBOL, CICS, DB2 development and Architecture experience to travel to client sites Nationwide.

The Application Modernization Specialist / Developer provides analytical ability and creativity for digital transformation solutions for our clients.

The Application Modernization Technical Coordinator / Architect will coordinate and lead digital transformation solutions for our clients ensuring that the solution defined in regards to modernization of legacy systems is carried out and executed to completion.
 
As an Application Development Specialist/Architect you will:

  • Design, develop, and potentially lead other specialists / developers on digital transformation engagements modernizing existing legacy platform (IBM Mainframe – COBOL, CICS, DB2, etc.) to a modernized (SOA, Microservices and / or API-enabled) enterprise architecture.
  • Design, implement and lead digital transformation engagements modernizing existing legacy platform (IBM Mainframe – COBOL, CICS, DB2, etc.) to a modernized (SOA, Microservices and / or API-enabled) enterprise architecture.
  • Drive implementations of service-enabled, rules-based solutions on either Mainframe or distributed platforms as well as other modernization offerings.
  • Utilize provided information and appropriate frameworks to develop assessment materials to understand client needs and drive technical activities to completion.
  • Conduct legacy asset analysis, code restructuring and refactoring, code conversion. 
  • Perform business logic extraction and build executable business rules.
  • Implement service-enabled, rules-based solutions on either Mainframe or distributed platforms as well as other modernization offerings.
  • Drive adoption of agile and iterative project approaches.
  • Drive adoption of flexible and extensible Web UI solutions using Design thinking to arrive at effective user experiences.
  • Develop medium to high complexity benefit realization models utilizing the Modernization Workshop and Assessment methodology.
  • Job Requirements

    Basic Qualifications:

    • 3 plus years of experience in developing and, or Architecting in one or more of the following languages: Mainframe, COBOL, JCL, IMS, CMS, Natural, C, C++, C# , Java, .NET and / or any other 4GL language.
    • 2 plus years of experience in reading legacy system application code and writing modified code to modernize the application on the enterprise solution. 
    • 2 plus years of experience in a solution generating role.
    • 3 plus years of experience in working in an internal / external consulting environment.
    • 3 plus years of experience leading projects / coordinating delivery teams.
    • Basic knowledge of next gen technologies (e.g. Cloud, Microservices, API).
    • The ability to travel 100% of the time to client sites.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree.
    • At least 8 years experience in developing in one or more of the following languages: Mainframe, COBOL, JCL, IMS, CMS, Natural, C, C++, C# , Java, .NET and / or any other 4GL language.
    • At least 5 years experience in reading legacy system application code and writing modified code to modernize the application on the enterprise solution. 
    • At least 2 years experience of next gen technologies (e.g. Cloud, Microservices, API).
    • At least 2 years experience in performing conversions from IMS to DB2 language version upgrades.
    • At least 2 years experience utilizing Modernization methods and techniques and tools (e.g. MicroFocus).
    • At least 2 years experience performing business rules extraction.
    • At least 2 years experience in working in an internal / external consulting environment.
