Job Description Assistant Director, Developmental Disabilities Services Division
The Department of Disabilities, Aging and Independent Living (DAIL) has an exciting opportunity for a proven leader to take on a key managerial position in overseeing the operations of the Developmental Disabilities Services Division (DDSD). DDSD supports a system of person-centered, individualized, community-based services for people with developmental disabilities. We seek a person with professional experience in developmental disabilities services, healthcare or human services, and supervision of professional staff.
A dynamic department within the largest agency in the State of Vermont; the Agency of Human Services, Department of Disabilities, Aging and Independent Living (DAIL) has an exciting opportunity for a strategic, motivated and savvy leader to take on a key managerial position in overseeing the operations of the Developmental Disabilities Services Division. This position requires someone with strong leadership, organizational and advocacy skills as well as the ability to work collaboratively with internal staff, service providers, advocates, and Vermonters who receive services in supporting an effective service system.  The State of Vermont has long been a national leader in person-centered, individualized, community-based services for people with developmental disabilities which promotes dignity, respect and independence. The incumbent in this role will have the opportunity to support our continued innovation into the future. We seek a person with proven leadership in human services, healthcare or program management. Professional experience in developmental disabilities services or other long-term services and support programs and supervision of professional staff is required.

Job Requirements


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Master's degree or higher in human services, public administration or a health care related field AND four (4) years or more of professional level experience in disability and/or elder programs or services INCLUDING two (2) years or more in an administrative capacity including supervision of staff.

OR

Master's degree or higher in business administration AND six (6) years or more of professional level experience in disability and/or elder programs or services INCLUDING two (2) years or more in an administrative capacity including supervision of staff.

OR

Bachelor's degree in human services, public administration or a health care related field AND six (6) years or more of professional level experience in disability and/or elder programs or services INDLUCING two (2) years or more in an administrative capacity including supervision of staff.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.  In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.
