Job Description Mechanical Lab Technician

A globally successful company in Lake County Ohio that serves customers in more than 100 countries and has been in business for over 90 years, is looking for a highly motivated individual to fill the role of Mechanical Lab Technician.

The Mechanical Lab Technician is responsible for the operation of tests in the operating areas of Mechanical Testing.  If you have a background that illustrates a high mechanical ability, such as an auto mechanic, maintenance technician, or any other profession / personal interest where you routinely take things apart and re-assemble them, this will be an EXCELLENT position for you!

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Control and troubleshoot problems related to the test laboratory equipment and stands
  • Perform mechanical and maintenance functions on test stands and associated equipment.
  • Take an active role in your test area and engage and support all company and department initiatives to include those around Safety, Environment, Quality, and career development
  • Communicate testing related issues to the appropriate engineer, facilitator, or support group
  • Stay current on lab utilities that support your test area
  • Procure test parts and support equipment and ensure they are charged to the proper accounts
  • Recommend new test support equipment as needed
  • Be an active participant in completing shift rounds
  • Complete training needed to develop technical and interpersonal skills
  • Job Requirements

    Qualifications and Skills

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • 2 years of automotive mechanical experience or equivalent is strongly preferred
    • Demonstrated mechanical acumen and familiarity with standard engine / driveline nomenclature
    • Ability to properly use hand tools and specialized measurement equipment such as engine diagnostic tools, torque wrenches, and micrometers
    • Good basic math skills
    • Ability to document testing data and issues in an orderly and legible fashion
    • Ability to prioritize work for while maintaining a high ethical standard at all times
    • Ability to lift up to approximately 50 lbs. and move drums weighing up to 800 lbs.
    • Ability to stand for long periods of time
    • Computer skills to include Microsoft Excel and Word
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Ability to successfully pass a background check
    • Ability to work flexible work schedules, including shifts, weekends, and overtime
