Millipore Sigma has a need for a Business Development/ Innovation Scout for the San Francisco or Los Angeles, California area.

As a Business Development/ Innovation Scout you will be:

  • Working in line with “Strategy and Transformation” strategic needs, to drive new opportunities for partnerships with academic institutions and businesses in the Materials and Healthcare space, based on the West Coast of the US.
  • Will encompass scouting and evaluation of external opportunities for e.g biosensing, electronics, wearables, big data analysis and material science as well as in adjacent scientific fields.
  • Concentrating on a territory in Silicon Valley and supporting the local team with expertise in Healthcare industry as well as strategies.
  • Tap into the ecosystem of the Silicon Valley to support business within and beyond, by fostering innovation.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key opinion leaders, scientists, innovators and entrepreneurs in both academic and business settings. The main geographic area of focus is the US West Coast.
  • Develop models and identify opportunities for new open innovation partnerships. Work with the company’s “Strategy, Transformation, and New Business Builder” (NBB) groups to set strategic priorities and scope.
  • Scope is aligned with strategic Innovation Field “Biosensing and Interfaces” and in close alignment with Global Business Development.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the company’s competitive landscape in Life Science, Biopharmaceuticals and Material Science.
  • Scout for new opportunities between and beyond the Life Science, Healthcare and Performance Materials sectors.  
  • Work closely with company Sectors and Innovation Centers to support the sourcing evaluation, and execution of external agreements for partnerships and technology in licensing.
  • Secure successful execution of partnerships all the way to achieving the envisioned goals.
  • Work closely with peers in the sectors and the Innovation Centers in Germany and China to further shape the company’s global external innovation model and build the Silicon Valley Innovation Hub.
  • Travel locally 25% of the time.
  • Work Remote 50% of the time.

  • Job Requirements

    Basic Qualifications:

    • PhD/MD and/or MBA
    • A minimum of 3 years of (R&D or investment) experience in the fields of biosciences, healthcare, point of care, biomarker detection or biotechnology?
    • Has built an extensive local (Bay Area and surrounding regions) network of scientists, key opinion leaders, investors and entrepreneurs active in the fields of life science, electronics and healthcare.
    • Fluent in English.
    • Requires both domestic and international travel up to 25%.
    • Work Remotely 50% of the time.  

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Broad knowledge of the fields of life science is required. Strong know-how in chemical or material science, electronics and data analytical tools is a plus.
    • Experience in identifying, evaluating and executing external partnerships and has a good understanding of equity investing.
    • Experience in the field of microbiome is a plus.
    • Basic knowledge in business development.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Strong social and networking skills.

    • Strong data and information analysis skills.
