Job Description

Electrical Controls Technician

Maintains assigned instrumentation and specialized electrical and communications equipment within the plant properly calibrated and functioning at peak performance.  Supports Operations and Process group with a proactive approach to equipment repair.


·         Partake in safe work practices and counsel other employees to do the same, as necessary, by understanding and complying with the lock-out/tag-out procedures

·         Calibrate equipment in conformance with ISO standards in the Quality Systems calibration manuals

·         Install, maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation and control systems, e.g. – level, flow, pressure and motor controls

·         Maintain and troubleshoot combustion systems and respective controls

·         Install and maintain PLC and DCS systems

·         Originate, maintain and understand electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and piping and instrumentation diagrams

·         Build, install and maintain thermocouples

·         Maintain AC and DC motor drives

·         Maintain some 460V, 3-phase systems

·         Maintain communications equipment

·         Maintain instrument shop tools and test equipment

·         Continually improve the skill level of the electrical tradesmen through on-the-job training

·         Communicate all changes affecting process/production to those affected

·         Assist as requested with weekend, holiday, and call-in maintenance

·         Utilize SAP to track/manage work orders

·         Install and repair electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic machinery components.


Job Requirements



·      Electrical or trade school certifications for PLC, controls troubleshooting, arc flash training, national electrical regulations, high voltage

·      Licensed electrician is a preferred



·      Minimum five (5) years’ hands-on experience in and industrial manufacturing environment


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·      Working knowledge of SAP

·      Knowledge of Allen Bradley

·      Knowledge of control circuits

·      Knowledge of industrial power

·      Ability to communicate across departments

·      Ability to multi-task

·      Troubleshooting skills

·      Computer skills in MS Windows environment; Moderate skills with Word, PowerPoint and Excel

·      Computer

·      Hand tools

·      Multimeter/Calibration instruments


Physical Demands:

·      Must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds

·      Regularly required to sit, stand, walk and reach with hands and arms


Working Conditions:

·      May be exposed to extreme temperature changes

·      Must be able to work on the plant floor for 8 hours

·      Moderate noise level

·      Regularly exposed to a fast-paced environment

·      Regularly exposed to wet and dusty conditions

·      Travel is approximately 5% of time
