Job Description Purpose of this Position

Based out of our Centerline, MI automotive testing laboratory, the primary function of the Fuels Test Engineer is to facilitate design/product validation test programs for a single or multiple customer base.  The Fuels Test Engineer will manage a group of engineers/technicians to safely set-up and perform automotive component testing in a Fuel rated environment.  Work is to be performed in accordance with established QA procedures in conducting Fuel systems testing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate and maintain Fuel Pump Module test stands and related equipment in compliance with company policies and safety requirements.
  • Interpret and work to several OEM test specifications, SAE and ASTM standards
  • Development and use of LabView programs for automated test systems
  • Create and update project timelines for multiple customers
  • Use of various data acquisition equipment
  • Identify test equipment, lab facilities, and fixture resources to complete various testing per test plans
  • Review test data and present to customers (OEM and Tier 1 & 2 suppliers)
  • Create project summaries and final reports for customers
  • Technically assist in project quoting
  • Effectively communicate test details, concerns, and timing with multiple customers
  • Work closely with other engineers/technicians 

  • Supervisory Responsibilities

    Manages technicians dependent upon test program needs and typically reports to lab manager

    Education and/or Experience

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering preferred.
    • 5-7 years experience in automotive testing field
    • Fuel system and/or automotive component testing experience highly preferred.

    Other Skills and Abilities

    • Experience in interpreting testing procedures and requirements.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel)
    • Availability, flexibility, and maturity to represent the company with customers and within the company. 
    • Ability to remain calm when faced with mounting pressure related to deadlines and multiple priorities. 
    • Well-developed oral and written communication skills to meet a variety of communication needs. Good interpersonal skills that foster open upward and downward communication built on mutual respect. 
    • Ability to interface with clients, suggest new work and determine their requirements; may help develop proposals including cost estimates, work plan and terms and conditions. 

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    Must have valid driver’s license, or ability to obtain prior to beginning employment

    Physical Demands

    • Frequency of required physical force: Occasional (moderate).
    • Lifting requirements: lifting <50 lbs. often and > 50 lbs. sporadically.
    • Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time.
    • Ability to lift 50+lbs periodically.
    • Work is performed mainly indoors.
