Job Description Murray Ocular Oncology and Retina  is seeking an experienced Front Desk Insurance Verifier for 4 month position! 

The Front Desk/ Insurance Verifier is responsible for verifying insurance and estimating the patient’s financial responsibility and delivers exceptional customer service to our patients.


  • Using coded data to produce and submit claims to insurance companies.
  • Working directly with the insurance company, healthcare provider, and patient to get claims processed and paid.
  • Review and work with appeals for unpaid and denied claims.
  • Verify patient’s insurance coverage.
  • Answer patients' billing questions.
  • Handle collections on unpaid accounts.
  • Follow-up on rejected or denied claims.
  • Follow-up and work with patient statements, initiating refunds to insurances and customers, taking incoming calls from providers and customers, researching and responding to inquiries and ensuring proper documentation within our billing system.
  • Ensure accuracy and follow-up on insurance claims.
  • Re-submission of claims as necessary.
  • Verify correct ICD-9/1CD-10 Medicare Coding.
  • Acknowledge and greet the patients/visitors with a great smile upon their arrival or as immediately seen.
  • Answering a multi-line phone system with courtesy and professionalism.
  • Additional Duties as assigned.
  • Job Requirements Requirements for Front Desk / Insurance Verifier:
    • High School diploma minimum requirement or equivalent is a must.
    • Medical terminology and coding background.
    • Ophthalmology experience is strongly preferred, especially experience with retinas.
    • MUST have a minimum of 1 year Medical Billing experience in an In and/or Outpatient facility.
    • Must have knowledge of ICD-9, transition to ICD-10, CCI edits, CPT coding, insurance terminology, and ability to read Explanation of Benefits.
    • Knowledge of Computers and Microsoft Applications and Billing Software.  Windows experience is a plus.
    • Knowledge of Medisoft or CPS Pro helpful.
    • Attention to detail, ability to multi task and the capability to work within a fast paced environment.
    • Previous experience with Medicare, Medicaid, HPSA, Private or Commercial Insurances, HIPAA compliance and EOB postings is required.
    • Strongly prefer Bilingual skills in English / Spanish.
