Job Description: Porter


Responsible for the cleanliness of the showroom, offices, restroom and storage spaces of our store. The porter position will assists with minor store repairs, furniture touch- ups, receiving and unpacking of accessories and furniture. The porter will assists in all floor moves and in the placement of accessories and furniture as directed by the Merchandise Manager. He or she will assist with all fly-bys and customer carry outs and will ensure the store is clean, shiny and orderly.

Requirements: The Porter will possess:

  • One year of experience in custodial or warehouse position preferred, but not required.
  • Must have the ability to make basic repairs.
  • Must have attention to detail and good organizational skills.
  • Be a self-starter and a team player.

Physical Requirements: An associate must meet the essential physical requirements to accommodate the functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the associate will be required to lift products in excess of 60 lbs. without the use of a lifting device and substantially more with a manual furniture dolly. They will be required to walk, stand, crouch or kneel to reach objects. They will occasionally be required to work outdoors and in extreme temperature environments. The Porter will be required to use miscellaneous cleaning supplies and cleaning chemicals on a daily basis.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Changes light bulbs and makes basic repairs as needed.
  • Constantly surveys the store looking for safety concerns and looks for new methods to keep store clean and organized.
  • Responsible for the organizing the stockroom and storage room areas.
  • Responsible for keeping an inventory of all sold and damaged accessories in the back dock.
  • Assists Merchandise Manager with the completion of store displays.
  • Unpacks and receives all accessory orders.
  • Assists customers with loading and unloading of merchandise.
  • Each day the Porter Daily Responsibilities checklist must be completed and signed at the end of every shift.
  • Areas of responsibilities include but not limited to : emptying and taking out trash, mopping, restrooms, bull pen cleanliness, vacuuming, windows, assisting in café, kids play area and front office cleanliness.
  • Porter is to work closely with the Merchandise Manager and Management Staff on additional daily task that is required by the store.
  • A supply order should be submitted to her/his immediate supervisor by the 12th and 26th of each month.
  • Performs all other duties as directed by store management.

Occasionally, the Porter will be asked and expected to perform various, miscellaneous, and non-standard duties as required. Such duties are diversified in nature and may be changed from time to time to suit the needs of the company.
