Job Description

OLH Inc. is currently seeking a recent graduate (0 to 3 years) experience Junior Civil Engineer to join our team in our Columbia, SC office. OLH performs project and construction management on projects focused on, rail, road and bridges, schools, and nuclear energy. The newly hired engineer will be assigned to work closely with experienced licensed professional engineers, designers, and project management staff who will provide guidance and mentoring.

Possession of an Engineer-in-Training certificate is desirable. Ideal candidate will be eligible for reimbursement of all training and fees associated with obtaining their Professional Engineering (PE) license per company policy.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with developing project scopes, engineering estimates, and capital cost estimates

  • Developing resource-loaded CPM schedules using Primavera

  • Use the application of Civil/ Structural engineering principles to provide efficient, effective, economical and timely solutions to design problems in a multidiscipline project environment

  • Engineering design of roads, structures, performing utility coordination, and routine drafting and tracing of sewers, water mains, storm drains and highways or similar public works projects

  • Perform plan checks and constructability reviews to insure compliance with specifications and practices

  • Assists with and performs field inspections of various engineering and construction projects

  • Working independently evaluating, selecting, and applying standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications. Assignments require forward thinking and the investigation of a number of variables

  • Maintaining technical knowledge to ensure appropriate technologies are incorporated into designs and most cost-effective design techniques are utilized

    Job Requirements

    • A recent, or soon to be graduate with a Masters or Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering

    • Competent in the use of engineering and office software such as word processing, spreadsheet, database, CAD and other software employed by the company (training to be provided where needed)

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

    • Aptitude for working on multi-disciplinary teams

    • A desire to learn and continually develop

    • Co-op or Summer Student experience an asset
