Entry Level Software Support Engineer (Operations Support)

Syracuse, NY


Optanix is actively seeking candidates who have demonstrated progressive experience in customer service, troubleshooting, impact recognition and provider management. The Entry-level Software Support Engineer is responsible for quickly and accurately assessing inbound customer emails/calls pertaining to server health and service/escalate customer issue as appropriate as part of incident and problem management to enable delivery of service management. An Entry-Level Software Support Engineer is expected to be able to give impromptu written and oral presentations to internal and external customers.  As demonstrated by a combination of work and/or project experience, the successful candidate will be expected to possess the skills to manage specific milestones identified as part of the project as a team member and as an individual.


  • Familiarity and experience in Network and Systems management. 
  • Must possess a good working knowledge of data and voice networking concepts/components.
  • Experience and knowledge in LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) is recommended.
  • Must possess good communication skills, be skilled at requirements gathering, able to recommend solutions and have excellent customer service skills.
  • Job Requirements

    This position requires 1+ years of experience as a Network/Systems Administrator and/or IT Support preferably in a data or converged networking environment. Two years of experience in a business operational support or business support systems is required.  Verified technical training and/or a college degree may be considered in lieu of work experience.  General Linux (Unix) and Windows system administration skills.  Familiarity with database structures queries and administration is preferred.  Ability to work independently with customers both on location and over the phone.  Strong analytical and problem solving skills are required.  The Engineer should have a broad knowledge of converged networked environment device types, business processes, data (management and integrity) management and business management.


    A general working knowledge of the following areas is also required:

    • Cisco Contact Center Products (including Voice, Unified Communications and ICM)
    • Cisco Foundation Products, entitlement management
    • MySQL (INNODB, NDB) Administration
    • Software auditing (physical, feature and/or functional)
    • Billing management and operational support.
