This is a virtual position.  Denver area preferred, but open to applicants nationwide.

    The Research Advocacy Manager is an exciting role that serves as the back bone of our research efforts at Fight Colorectal Cancer. This role is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of colorectal cancer research related campaigns nationwide.  Specifically, helping to plan and implement the research advocacy agenda and efforts for the organization.  This unique and dynamic position provides hands on experience writing, blogging, and producing webinars, trainings, and being a part of an energetic team. This position works directly to inform colorectal cancer patients, their families, caregivers and health professionals through supportive discussion and the delivery of high quality cancer related information. Additionally, this position supports the research advocacy training and support of the (RATS) program to develop curriculum, hold trainings, and evaluation of programming.  As such, successful candidates for this position MUST be emotionally intelligent and have strong oral and written communication skills.  Knowledge of colorectal cancer or cancer treatment, and screening guidelines is highly preferred. This virtual position requires strong project management, time management, and communications skills, reporting directly to the Director of Health Promotion.  The Research Coordinator is responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of patient related services and initiatives at the local, state and national levels.

    Primary responsibilities are:

  • Review and understand medical and scientific literature to incorporate and help guide the direction of the organization’s research advocacy and patient education campaigns.
  • To form and maintain supportive and professional relationships with cancer survivors, families and advocates.   
  • To form relationships with academic and industry partners to further research aims.
  • To plan and analyze focus groups for research advocacy and patient education designed to inform content for colorectal cancer survivors.
  • To assist in proposal and research grant writing for  patient research advocacy and patient education efforts for funding and research
  • To develop and manage a portfolio of specialists and survivorship services to support patients, survivors, and their families affected by colorectal cancer
  • To facilitate and support the building of networks with national and community organizations, and coordinate the medical advisory board (MAB).
  • To represent Fight CRC at appropriate speaking engagements, conferences and events to promote services and raise awareness about the organization.
  • To coordinate, write, and develop an online resource for patients to include fact sheets, blogs, survivors’ stories, social media, and updates to the website, requiring strong writing skills.
  • To build, foster and maintain relationships with external stakeholders - health and social care partners, service providers, and community development networks and alliances. 
  • Take the leadership in development of strategy for the organization’s communications, research advocacy activities as per Fight CRC’s strategic research plan.
  • To build and maintain an online and in person curriculum for the Research Advocacy Training and Support Program.
  • To develop and implement programming and evaluation for the Research Advocacy Training and Support (RATS) program.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Virtual environment with a home office, requiring strong time management skills

  • Some evening and weekend work required.
  • 25-35% travel is required.
  • Responds to inquiries from the general public (in person, on phone or via e-mail).
  • Multiple reporting relationships.
  • Works with confidential issues and data.
  • Routine interactions with colorectal cancer survivors for research advocacy.
  • No direct supervision responsibility required but during events and for Fight CRC events, volunteer coordination is required.
  • Multiple priorities and interaction with partners from advocacy, non-profit organizations, policy makers and organizations, medical centers.

    Job Requirements

    Education and/or Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.  Commensurate job experience and experience working for a health or disease-related organization will be considered.
    • Experience working with cancer survivors or with patients in the health care system.
    • Candidate will need to be self-starter, accountable to the tasks while able to work on own with limited supervision, must be a team player and work with others even via remote systems ( Google+  / HangOuts / IM )
    • Computer skills and comfortable with use of Social Media and core applications including:

    Preferred Experience

    • At least two years’ experience working in advocacy, public health, research, healthcare or medical setting.
    • Disease knowledge in oncology and/ or colorectal cancer.
    • Previous project management experience.
