We have an immediate need for a Quality Engineering & Operational Excellence Manager based at our Stone and Steel division, headquartered in Mesa, AZ. For over 23 years Stone and Steel has helped some of the largest brands design and roll out superior vanity systems and accessories. Our dedicated staff of designers and engineers fabricate and install some of the industry’s most efficient, low maintenance, and environmentally safe facilities. The Quality Engineering & Operational Excellence Manager  will lead quality, process and lean activities to drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout their assigned areas of  responsibility.  The Manager will be directly and significantly involved in Sloan’s Lean transformation including implementation, policies and training.  Consistently promote continuous improvement of all processes toward improved quality performance to specifications and increased customer satisfaction. 


  • Directs Quality Assurance day-to-day activities including but not limited to verification and conformance to print / process specification of manufactured and assembled parts along with parts/services performed by suppliers.  Performs supplier evaluations of potential suppliers as required, manages supplier quality and their corrective and preventative actions.  Assists with Engineering Specification Development as required. 
  • Collaborates with Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Sustaining Engineering, Suppliers & Technical Services to investigate customer quality complaints. Designs and performs experiments, inspections and analysis allowing for root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventative action. Leads, tracks, monitors and drives CAPA process and assists with customer and field resolution.
  • Maintains Quality KPI's and Dashboards.  Leads effort to identify high impact reoccurring issues and effective corrective actions.
  • Actively champions continuous improvement activities to reduce waste, increase yield and improve customer satisfaction.  Designs, implements and documents procedures for process control, process improvement, testing and inspection. 
  • Advances a culture of continuous improvement, integrates Lean philosophy into operating and management development programs.
  • Provides direction and guidance in all areas of Lean/Six Sigma methodology and acts as a key driver of change within the business unit supporting all functions throughout the company’s Lean transformation.

  • Job Requirements
    • A Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management or related field or equivalent is required.   
    • A minimum of 10 years experience with a minimum of 3 years management experience with at least 2 years experience as an organization’s dedicated Lean/Six Sigma leader.
    • Minimum of 3+ years of experience as the head of operations, Plant Manager, Manager of Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering, or a similar role.
    • Experience in converting a traditional operation (service or manufacturing) to a Lean manufacturing operation, with a disciplined focus on customer satisfaction. This conversion experience must include actual implementation, not just management or sponsorship, and demonstrated experience in dealing with the natural challenges arising from a Lean transformation.
    • Lean systems education will have been received from a reputable source such as Toyota, Shingijutsu Consulting, or other reputable companies that have the recognition for being successful, Lean enterprises.
    • Extensive implementation experience with the following techniques is required: 5S, Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), production leveling techniques such as Heijunka, Visual Workplace, Standardized Work, Cellular Manufacturing, Kaizen, Single Minute Exchange of Die (SMED), Single Piece Flow and Pull, and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)
