Serves as primary technician on projects and may be asked to lead teams charged with basic tasks in order to begin developing team leadership skills.  Should have mastery of all required training and contribute to the development of new techniques.  Conducts technical activities on preclinical toxicity studies according to study protocols.  Receives daily tasking assignments, under moderate supervision, from higher level technical personnel having responsibility for coordinating the tasks of a group.  Accountable to group supervisor for performance and management for scientific elements of a project.  Functions as a member of work team by assisting others and actively promoting a team-oriented work environment.

Duties & Responsibilities\:

  • Function as a primary technician with primary responsibility for study activities and leads small teams during the conduct of the project

  • Trained on and conducts moderately complex technical procedures toxicity studies of moderate complexity; May be assigned to specialized tasks as a primary responsibility under the direction of a more senior technician, supervisor or manager

  • Completes study-related activities according to applicable Good Laboratory Practices and communicates findings in a timely manner

  • Maintains study records and study notebooks and responds to quality assurance audit findings pertaining to primary study records; Maintains and reviews study-related documents for accuracy, creates forms and completes study notebooks in a timely manner under minimal supervision

  • Functional knowledge and ability to operate more complex laboratory equipment; Actively and independently monitors and advances training progress and schedules training sessions with higher level personnel; Participates in training lower level personnel

  • Complies with applicable regulations, performing all work in a safe manner; Maintains proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies

  • Functions as a team member and displays the behaviors and attributes required to complete inter-dependent tasks within a highly dynamic work environment where success depends on coordination, cooperation and personal leadership among members; Serves as a mentor to other team members

  • Requirements\:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in biological science or equivalent with 2+ years experience in an animal health/veterinary practice environment or current laboratory or Associate’s Degree in biological science or equivalent with 4+ years experience in an animal health/veterinary practice environment or current laboratory

  • Certification (e.g. A.S.C.P., A.A.L.A.S. or equivalent) is highly desirable

  • Strict attention to detail and follow-up skills is essential; Excellent verbal and written communications skills are highly desirable; Basic skills in Microsoft Word and Excel are required

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to perform in a team environment and demonstrate personal leadership and behaviors supportive of team interactions

  • No known allergies to animals.

  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. and work in a standing position for extended durations (approx. 2 hours) with periodic breaks.

  • Must be able to wear respiratory protection devices

  • Must be able to access laboratory equipment on bench tops or equivalent while using both hands to perform manual dexterity operations

  • Eligibility Requirements\:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

  • Must be willing to submit to a background investigation, including verification of your past employment, criminal history, and educational background

  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
