Robert Half Finance is looking for an ambitious Controller to join a well-respected services company. This is a leadership role with responsibility over a small accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, your tasks will include planning and directing all accounting operational functions, managing the accumulation and consolidation of financial information for internal and external financial statements, assessing accounting and internal control systems, and guiding departmental staff. The Controller position is a full-time opportunity in the Southern Vermont region. Your responsibilities in this role - Guide all operations of the finance department, including accounts payable, billings collections, and payroll - Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor on a monthly basis - Manage the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is on time - Evaluate, apply and refine policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies - Support Finance Department initiatives, including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, through research, planning and implementation, as needed - Complete month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, reconcile accounts, and handle G/L analysis - Collaborate with management, executive team and partners to support efficient and effective firm-wide operation - Give executive committee and partners monthly financial reports - Prepare cash-flow reports that project cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and handle daily cash management
Job Requirements- Proven analytical skills - defining problems, collecting relevant data, drawing valid conclusions, and recommending improvement/corrective actions - Proficient in Microsoft Excel - 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years as a Controller preferred - Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems - Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity - Sound written and verbal communication skills - Past work in technology, analytics and management experience highly valued - Outstanding communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations - Ability and willingness to meet business critical deadlines - Previous experience in public accounting is highly valued - Observant, accurate and able to thrive in a fast paced environment - Strong technical background in accounting - Develop quality deliverables - Project accountability onto self and others for ensuring that results are achieved - General ledger experience - Journal entries experience preferred - Financial statement preparation experience required - Solid understanding of month end closings - Costing experience highly desired
