POSITION SUMMARY:

The Hospice Aide is responsible for modeling the 3 Company values of Compassion, Integrity, and Excellence, and for promoting the Hospice Compassus philosophy, using the 6 Pillars of success as the foundation. S/he is responsible for upholding the Code of Ethical Conduct and for promoting positive working relationships within the Program, between the Program and other Company departments, and between the Program and all external stakeholders. The Hospice Aide will provide personal care, supportive services, education, and light household duties in a plan of care developed by the RNCM. The aide will communicate changes to the Registered Nurse Case Manager and complete documentation to reflect assigned duties set by the Registered Nurse Case Manager. The Hospice Aide will utilize the IDT team to assist in this process. S/he is responsible for applying the rules and regulations of state and federal regulatory agencies and other certified agencies.

  • Follows specific cleaning and service instructions as outlined by the Director of Clinical Services.
  • Assists with personal care including: Tub, shower, whirlpool or bed bath, shampoo, dry, style hair, nail and skin care, assists with oral hygiene, toileting and elimination with safe transfer technique and ambulation.
  • Takes vital signs as directed by RN case manager.
  • Checks stock and notifies supervisor of supply needs.
  • Gives an assigned patient the attention needed to provide a sanitary, odor free, orderly environment.
  • Sorts, counts, folds, marks, or carries linens.
  • Makes beds.
  • Performs light housework including cleaning area around patient, bathroom, and kitchen.
  • Replenishes supplies such as drinking glasses and writing supplies.
  • Transports trash and waste to disposal area.
  • Replenishes bathroom supplies.
  • Completes all assignments scheduled in a timely manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Assists with family needs and/or post mortem care at time of death.

  • Strong oral and verbal and interpersonal communications are needed.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of Leaders, and Colleagues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, software.
  • Ability to work a schedule that meets the organizational needs and project timelines.
  • History of meeting assignment deadlines and budgetary requirements.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Education and/or Experience

    High school diploma or general education degree; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Other Qualifications

    Ability to successfully complete competency evaluation program.  This includes a written and a skills evaluation. Ability to work a flexible schedule, to include some evenings and weekends. High integrity, including maintenance of confidential information such as patient records.  Must be able to travel.

    Certifications, Licenses and Registrations

    Certified Nursing Assistant certification required.

    Connecticut- Certified Nursing Assistant designation by the CT board of nursing.

    Maine -  Certified Nursing Assistant designation by the ME board of nursing.

    Massachusetts - Certified Nursing Assistant designation by the MA board of nursing.

    New Hampshire – LNA certification by NH board of nursing.

    Valid driver’s license and auto liability insurance.

    Other Skills and Abilities

    Must be able to tend the geriatric and the terminally ill.

    There will be possible exposure to infectious diseases. Circumstances can be unpredictable and high stress.  The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.  Frequent driving is required.
