Job Description CMM PROGRAMMER

Department: Machine, Metal Finish, Tooling

Reports To: Operations

SUMMARY

Writes and maintains coordinate measuring machine (CMM) programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Writes and maintains CMM programs based on customer or company specifications.
  • Assists with in-house training on CMM equipment and software.
  • Troubleshoots and contacts outside technical support services for CMM software as needed.
  • Verify CMM programs for dimensions, notes and clarity as a first and secondary check.
  • Works with other departments to answer questions that may arise on interpreting a part of CMM program.
  • Creates and performs GR&Rs and correlation studies as needed.
  • Writes, updates and improves quality procedures and work instructions as required.
  • Assists Engineers, CNC Programmers, Technicians and Customers with qualification and validation of new or revised parts or tooling.
  • Assists engineers with the conceptualization and development of part fixtures to hold parts during inspection.
  • May be required to travel.
  • Additional duties as requested by management.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and/or Experience

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 3-5 years minimum related experience and/ or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Language Skills

    Ability to read, analyze and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of algebra and geometry.

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

    Technical Skills

  • Working knowledge of personal computer, keyboard, and various software programs.
  • Strong command of blueprint reading and geometric tolerancing.
  • Working knowledge of inspection techniques.
  • Experience and strong extensive knowledge of Zeiss Calypso and PC-Dmis CMM software
  • Gage R & R
  • Use and knowledge of mechanical measuring instruments (bench layout skills).
  • General knowledge of applicable customer specifications and standards.
  • Must be able to perform inspection of complex machined and forged tools, fixtures and parts with tight tolerances using advanced measuring and layout techniques.
  • CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    CMM programming certification is desirable.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tool, or controls. The employee frequently is required to sit; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 120 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near, distance, sharpness vision and color and depth perception. This vision exam will be conducted annually.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee works near moving mechanical parts, and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
