Metallurgical Engineer

  • Work with Casting/Casting Process Development: in pressure counter pressure casting and other casting processes.

  • Work with product design engineering team in parallel during automotive component launch and production phases to achieve castable components.

  • Be able to identify problems, generate alternative outcomes and implement solutions.

  • Pursue and maintain qualifications in primary tests performed in both mechanical and metallurgical laboratories.

  • Log and ensure all incoming raw materials meet required specifications;

  • Ensure all molten metal meets density and chemistry specifications;

  • Ensure casting products meet all quality requirements;

  • Ensure all castings achieve required mechanical properties after heat treatment;

  • Keep equipment and work areas clean and in orderly condition.

  • Be aware of testing variables and inform management of equipment and/or material problems.

  • Participate in new foundry plant construction, floor layout, equipment selection and installation

  • Establish metallurgical lab for new casting plant;

  • Work with casting team to analysis the root causes if any defect occurring in prototype and production line and resolve casting defect issues like shrinkage, porosity, and hot tears, reduce scrap rate and improve casting quality, cycle time, and OEE;

  • Participate/support casting/quality engineers, and casting process improvement teams

  • Ensure casting products meet all quality requirements;


    2.1 Knowledge

  • Bachelor Degree, Metallurgical Engineering, prefer Master or Ph.D. degree.

  • Minimum 5 years experience in aluminum foundry or casting plant. Prior aluminum wheel casting and/or aluminum structure casting experience desired;

  • Comprehensive knowledge of metallurgy, chemistry, materials, aluminum castings, metal melting, handling, and processing;

  • Depth knowledge of use and routine maintenance of analytical instruments and equipment (X-rays, FPI, spectrometer, tensile machine, hardness tester, optical metallurgical microscopes with electronic camera, thermal analysis), familiar with metallurgical testing procedures and ASTM standards. Knowledge of specified customer standards desirable.

  • High level of analytical ability where problems somewhat complex;

  • Ability to manage and conduct analysis of aluminum components, includes aluminum casting defects, chemistry (incoming materials, molten metal), metallurgical microstructure, x-rays, mechanical property testing & failure analysis; perform sample preparations, examinations, and evaluations;

  • Ability to calibrate and adjust to proper settings the various tools and instruments.

  • Ability of oral & written communication skills;

  • Use computer software programs to report analytical results;

  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Safely use various hazardous chemicals during sample preparation.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Team work participation.

  • Automotive suspension component experience a plus.

  • 2.2 Skills and Abilities

  • Complete assignments, tasks and projects under strict time and quality constraints.

  • Advanced ability to solve analytical problems with creative and practical solutions.

  • Business acumen to work effectively with all organizational departments as well as direct interaction with the customer.

  • Proficient with MS Office applications

  • Ability to communicate in English, orally, and in writing

  • Strong organization and planning skills; Good listening skills;

  • 2.3 Education

  • Engineering Degree in Metallurgy, Material Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering; Advanced degree preferred.

  • 2.4 Experience

  • 3~5 years of experience within Metallurgy, Casting, or related Engineering disciplines preferred.

  • 3~5 years of using Engineering Problem Solving and Design of Experiments techniques

  • 3~5 years of Engineering preferably within the Automotive Industry.


  • Sitting, squatting, walking, bending 8 –10 hours per day

  •  Must be able to lift 50 lbs or more.

  • Must be able to work in different weather conditions
