Job Description


Responsible for designing, installing, monitoring, maintaining, and performance of tune production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability. Responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software. 



  • Assesses and develops long-term strategic goals for production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers.
  • Works with application development staff to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
  • Creates models for new database development and/or changes to existing ones.
  • Analyzes business needs, designs solutions, and implements databases.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves any production problems associated with the databases.
  • Analyzes application specifications or needs and creates physical and logical database structures.
  • Develops security requirements for data access controls of sensitive data and of users.
  • Monitors, reviews, recommends, and directs methods of improving databases in order to achieve optimal performance.
  • Develops computer programs to enhance database performance, recovery, and statistics.
  • Advises and provides technical direction for developers and analysts on the proper use of database interface methodology and SQL.
  • Researches and resolves database integrity issues.
  • Designs, develops, and documents database support procedures and standards.
  • Organizes and schedules database backups and reorganizations.
  • Performs database disaster recovery activities during emergency situations.
  • Installs and maintains new releases of the SQL Server database product set and other database applications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Job Requirements



    • Bachelor’s degree in the field of computer science or information systems preferred. 

    Required Knowledge:

    • Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
    • Working technical knowledge of database software, protocols, and standards.
    • Familiar with company-standard hardware and software. 

    Experience Required:

    • Minimum of 5 years equivalent work experience preferred.
    • Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting database servers.
    • Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience.
    • Experience with data processing flow charting techniques.
    • Conducting research into database issues, standards and products as required. 
    • System implementation experience is preferred.


    • Demonstration of effective and efficient analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Ability to conduct research into database related issues and products as required.
    • Flexible and adaptable in regards to learning and understanding new technologies.
    • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
    • Good written and oral communication skills.
    • Able to communicate effectively with non-technical staff and with members of interdisciplinary teams.
    • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
    • Keen attention to detail.
