Job Description

The Business Development Manager will develop, sign, and manage strategic partnerships with businesses and other organizations. Responsibilities will include identifying strategic partnership opportunities for both credit and non-credit programs, analyzing potential benefits of partnerships, making presentations regarding the benefits, arranging terms in conjunction with the KUGC and University stakeholders, and signing long-term profitable relationships for the KUGC.  The business development manager will be responsible for establishing strong initial relationships, serving as primary business point of contact and liaison for the KUGC, and growing the relationship over time. The position will report to the Campus President / Executive Director but will work very closely with the Directors of Admission[s] at the Campus in promoting University credit programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research and identify potential partnerships.
  • Develop and maintain an active pipeline of accounts, and manage through to closure - cold calling where appropriate, leveraging existing relationships to gain referrals, and growing and diversifying the base of business year-over-year
  • Working independently, develop learning recognition and portability relationships with institutions that lead to profitable revenue streams to KUGC through leads and shares of revenue from enrollments.
  • Clearly communicate the University's mission, products, presence in the market, and strategic goals.
  • As necessary, continue to support accounts to ensure partner success.
  • Negotiate deal terms and review contracts in consultation with the Campus President / Executive Director.
  • Conduct initial financial and strategic analysis to determine partnership fit.
  • Work with academic team, operations team, and technology team to ensure successful launch.
  • Travel approximately 50% of the time to meet with potential partners and to support existing accounts.
  • Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree (B.A./B.S.) in Business, Management, Marketing or Related Field
  • 3-5 years' related experience in complex, consultative sales, business development, and/or selling to higher education leaders
  • Experience in Project Management
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with employees at all levels within the organization, as well as prospective students, outside vendors, and members of educational institutions and organizations.
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Must be able to work some early mornings/evenings/weekends
  • Ability to travel throughout territory (minimum of 50% of the time)
  • Preferred Requirements:

  • MBA a plus
