Summary of position:

The Principal Project Engineer is responsible for providing key automation support and project management for medical device manufacturing. Lead project teams of engineers and technicians in the development, and troubleshooting of challenging processes and production lines. Manage capital asset development projects for process improvements, capacity expansions, cost reductions, safety, and quality. Actively participate in, and support, an empowered team culture including significant autonomous interaction with manufacturing site operations, quality, and engineering groups.

The Principal Project Engineer works in the corporate Process Engineering group to support manufacturing sites across the globe. Will act as lead engineer for assigned projects, and will be accountable for project success to budget, timeline and operational performance goals. Responsible for developing a work structure, directing team activities, and evaluating team member performance.

Essential functions:

  • Work with manufacturing facilities to identify opportunities for process/equipment efficiency improvements and cost savings.
  • Provide expert services to manufacturing facilities to evaluate current and new processes. These services include debug, upgrade recommendations, and planning for equipment acquisition.
  • Manage outside vendors to ensure compliance with the developed machine specifications and schedules for automation projects of significant size and scope.
  • Assist plant personnel for the commissioning and validation of new or modified production lines.
  • Ensure FDA/ISO/EN compliance in areas of responsibility.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers.
  • Up to 50% travel may be required, including unanticipated requests
  • Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field required
  • A minimum of 5+ years related work experience required
  • Either broad technical understanding in manufacturing processes or recognized expertise in a particular manufacturing technology
  • Skills

  • Strong analytical/statistical problem solving tools
  • Highly developed project management skills, and the ability to support multiple projects
  • Proven leadership skills and a track record of building and inspiring high-performing teams
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Solid PC skills including knowledge of MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Excellent time management, planning and organization skills.
  • Familiarity with process controls, equipment design, and AutoCAD.
  • Lean and Six Sigma experience/certification preferred.
