Provide research computing support and services to Clemson faculty, staff, and students. These support activities and services will align with the Clemson Forward's strategic plan, which emphasizes areas of advanced materials; cyber-infrastructure, analytics and big data science; energy, transportation and advanced manufacturing; human resilience; health innovation and sustainable environment.

30% - Essential - RESEARCH SUPPORT:
Work with researchers and customers on understanding their applications, assisting with integration and providing expertise. Assist researchers with developing research software tools that can leverage the parallel architectures of computing resources supported by Clemson University (CITI group). Assist researchers in finding and/or writing high performance research software. Coordinate with cluster administrators concerning the big data architecture needs of the Clemson research computing community and facilitate user-friendly access to those resources. Provide expertise in data analytics and algorithm development supporting exploitation of diverse data sources. Identify network, storage, and end-to-end performance requirements of research groups. Coordinate design modifications and configuration changes required by research groups, including hardware and software.

30% - Essential - TRAINING & OUTREACH:
Provide guidance to existing and potential users on how to use the cluster for their research projects through both one-on-one consultations and training sessions, including assistance with code compiling, workflow management, software installation and data management. Train researchers on parallel and other high performance techniques. Understand and convey current trends in research computing technology to the user community. Write user guides, informational material and other documentation. Work closely with faculty and graduate students to understand their research and their needs, developing solutions and funding strategies; and, actively pursuing infrastructure-related funding opportunities and partnerships. Assist with customer interaction to demonstrate and deliver research results through written reports, briefings and participation in program reviews.

25% - Essential - DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT:
Design and implement solutions to support research collaborations, including solutions involving both software and hardware components and different functional and performance requirements. Build tools and support architectures used to facilitate computational work flows and organize experiments in conjunction with best practices. Develop scripts to facilitate cluster and user management and assist the advanced computing infrastructure team in the creation of cluster related software applications. Develop software for existing and new cluster infrastructure related development projects and provide advanced support for the cluster and other implemented projects.

Maintain familiarity with emerging techniques and technologies in research computing. Participate in training, education and development activities to improve knowledge and performance and enhance professional development. Maintain familiarity with scientific visualization software and technologies. Attend relevant academic and professional conferences.

A bachelor's degree and experience in automated information or communication system design, installation, operation, repair, sales or marketing. Related experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

No Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget.

Prefer a degree in Computer Science, Engineering or other STEM field with equivalent experience.

Familiarity with Linux. Extensive programming experience in at least one of the following languages: MATLAB, Python, R, C/C++. Experience using large-scale computing resources such as HPC clusters.
