Demonstrate established knowledge and skill in performing set-ups and operating machines on new or repetitive jobs. Specialized understanding and skill requires performing more complex machine set-up and adjustments and figuring out how to run unusual parts.
Able to set-up and perform more complex machining functions
Produce product and complete to yield acceptable safety, quality, schedule and cost guidelines.
Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
Keep organized and thorough notes of machine settings and production specifications.
Ability to adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if machines malfunction.
Listen to machines during operation in order to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration. Adjust to compensate for problems.
Must be able to complete machine maintenance.
Mentors Machinist 1’s.
Uses geometric dimensioning and tolerancing as well as statistical process control to perform metrology tasks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to read and interpret complex drawings and work instructions.
Use inspection equipment, calipers, all types of micrometers, height gages, internal and external thread gage, and comparator.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Demonstrates use of intermediate computer operations and intermediate software packages.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma; this position requires two years of experience either from performing duties of the Machinist 2 or providing evidence of required experience through certificates or job resumes.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and color vision.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
