Position Purpose:
Under immediate supervision, performs a variety of clerical duties on nursing unit. Acts as information clerk/receptionist and maintains good public relations with patients, family visitors, physicians and hospital staff. Has regular contact with other departments.

Job Description Details:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a course for assistant/unit secretary, or on-the-job training required to specific policies and procedures of nursing unit. Graduation from an accredited Nursing Assistant course is required. Registration by the State of Idaho as a Nursing Assistant or a RN nursing student active in an accredited nursing program who has completed one clinical semester and has the nurse apprentice letter issued by the State Board of Nursing.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support for HealthCare Provider (BLS/HCP) certification required.
  • Skills to work independently are essential. Ability to speak and write effectively in English is essential. Ability to apply technical/professional knowledge as appropriate. High degree of accuracy is required.


  • Meets health system's Guiding Behaviors and Caring Standards including interpersonal communication and professional conduct expectations.
  • Prepares, compiles, and maintains the patient's medical record on the nursing unit from admission through discharge on a daily basis.
  • Transcribes physicians' orders accurately.
  • Processes tests and procedures as ordered by the physician, then receives results of tests and procedures and reports them to the patient caregiver.
  • Updates patient information in current computer technology daily as indicated.
  • Notifies physicians of admissions or consultations, as directed. Directs physician to appropriate patient caregiver.
  • Orders routine supplies weekly, and other supplies and equipment as necessary.
  • Provides direct patient care in accordance with treatment plans, as directed by the RN.
  • Demonstrates utilization of proper infection control standards and practices.
  • Demonstrates utilization of proper body mechanics for self and patient.
  • Complies with the organization's standards of care and Idaho Nursing Practice Act.
