Under immediate supervision, performs a variety of clerical duties on nursing unit. Acts as information clerk/receptionist and maintains good public relations with patients, family visitors, physicians and hospital staff. Has regular contact with other departments.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Completion of a course for assistant/unit secretary, or on-the-job training required to specific policies and procedures of nursing unit. Graduation from an accredited Nursing Assistant course is required. Registration by the State of Idaho as a Nursing Assistant or a RN nursing student active in an accredited nursing program who has completed one clinical semester and has the nurse apprentice letter issued by the State Board of Nursing.
American Heart Association Basic Life Support for HealthCare Provider (BLS/HCP) certification required.
Skills to work independently are essential. Ability to speak and write effectively in English is essential. Ability to apply technical/professional knowledge as appropriate. High degree of accuracy is required.
Meets health system's Guiding Behaviors and Caring Standards including interpersonal communication and professional conduct expectations.
Prepares, compiles, and maintains the patient's medical record on the nursing unit from admission through discharge on a daily basis.
Transcribes physicians' orders accurately.
Processes tests and procedures as ordered by the physician, then receives results of tests and procedures and reports them to the patient caregiver.
Updates patient information in current computer technology daily as indicated.
Notifies physicians of admissions or consultations, as directed. Directs physician to appropriate patient caregiver.
Orders routine supplies weekly, and other supplies and equipment as necessary.
Provides direct patient care in accordance with treatment plans, as directed by the RN.
Demonstrates utilization of proper infection control standards and practices.
Demonstrates utilization of proper body mechanics for self and patient.
Complies with the organization's standards of care and Idaho Nursing Practice Act.
