Responsibilities:

  • Check work orders or their direct Resource Leader for work assignments, obtains necessary tools and supplies, and proceeds to perform either preventative maintenance or unscheduled repairs.
  • Conducts "pre-flight" checkout of operating systems prior to start-up of line.
  • Completes work order and parts requisition forms for replacement of parts used.
  • Take appropriate action to ensure the integrity of the SQF system.
  • Responsible for reporting and taking any necessary action to prevent food safety and food quality problems from occurring.
  • Responsible for following and enforcing procedures outlined in the Food Safety Plan and the Food Quality Plan (level III) and any other programs that support the SQF system.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.
  • The work of a Maintenance Technician with BBU is performed in a baking operations facility involved primarily in the manufacturing of bread and buns. The specific department in which the duties are performed is the Engineering department and on the production line.

    The heaviest weights to be lifted by the maintenance technician will be gearboxes and motors weighing in the range of 80-100 lbs., when they cannot be handled on an assisted basis due to room constraints. However, for the most part, the worker will use assistive devices or a co-worker for lifts over 50 lbs. Lifts above the level of the shoulder will not exceed 50 lbs.

    Pushing and pulling activities may involve any type of push or pull encountered in the plant by the manufacturing or distribution personnel. This would be primarily to move objects out of the way.

    The work of a Maintenance Technician with BBU is performed mostly indoors in a food processing/manufacturing environment. Outdoor work may be occasioned based upon the need of the object to be fixed and its location. Temperature and humidity levels are generally higher than normal ambient room temperatures due to the proximity to industrial ovens used in the baking process.
    The worker is required to wear hairnets (beard nets if applicable), safety glasses and hearing protection and safety shoes in the performance of this work.

    The Maintenance Technician is required to use all types of hand tools and some equipment including welders, grinders, etc. A full maintenance shop is provided at the work site.

    The Maintenance Technician must be cognizant of all of the hazards associated with the operation of heavy equipment and tools. Furthermore, the potential to electrical shock must also be taken into consideration.

    Position Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Strong maintenance skill sets to include welding, electrical wiring, equipment set-up and changeover, reading of blueprints and schematics.
  • Experience in a bakery maintenance department is a strong plus.
