Safety Manager – Missiquoi Mill, Vermont

The opportunity:

The Safety Coordinator position supports and coordinates WestRock initiatives within safety, environmental and risk management compliance; supports, develops and coordinates training initiatives for skilled or specialized jobs/tasks.

How you will impact WestRock:

  • Support all aspects of VOSHA/EPA compliance; create and maintain compliance and regulatory documentation and training for local, state, and federal agencies to included written safety programs and documentation.
  • Develop, coordinate and facilitate all aspects of safety & environmental training and technical training for specific skills or jobs to meet training requirements.
  • Ability to research a topic & develop training using Power Point, web or e-learning as appropriate when given minimal information.
  • Assist with investigations by regulatory agencies, including audits and assisting with complaints, as needed.
  • Facilitate/support all aspects of the monthly Safety Committee Meeting and any other related activities.  
  • Assist in the establishment of the site safety committee(s), support and provide resources as necessary.
  • Organize and communicate all key points from each meeting to plant employees.
  • Update and review all Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s), Behavior Based Safety Observation (BBSO), Hazard Recognition and Control (HRAC), Ergonomic Assessments, and various updates related to the WestRock Safety Management System.  
  • Support the implementation of the facility’s annual safety improvement plan and the WestRock Safety Management System.
  • Update and enter safety information in the Risk Assessment Management Systems (RAMS).
  • Assist supervision in conducting head incident investigations and root cause analysis, and ensure accuracy.
  • Responsible for the completion of weekly and monthly safety audits, to include but not limited to fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, etc.  
  • Assist and support the activities of the First Responder Program.
  • Update and revise safety specific spreadsheets.
  • Establish and maintain filing system for safety.
  • Maintain and update Safety Bulletin Boards.
  • Interface with Division Safety Manager on key initiatives, and support corporate safety strategies

  • What You need to succeed

    •         Bachelors’ degree in Safety or related field is required

    •         5+ years professional safety management experience in an industrial manufacturing environment

    •         Good working knowledge of PowerPoint and Excel

    •         Able to respond quickly to changing priorities

    •         Confident in presenting training on various safety topics

    •         Ability to communicate with all employees and effectively lead and direct others

    •         Some travel may be required

    •         The job has no supervisory responsibilities
