Job Description Praxair Surface Technologies (PST), a subsidiary of Praxair, Inc., a Fortune 300 company that supplies atmospheric, process, specialty gases, high-performance coatings, and related services & technologies is seeking a Sr. Product Development Engineer in Indianapolis, IN.
 
The Sr. Product Development Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager of our Powders business and will develop new products and processes for Ceramic and Carbide Powders.
 
Sr. Product Development Engineer – Ceramic and Carbide Powders
  • Designing and implementing cost-effective processes and equipment to improve product yield, manufacturing throughput, product repeatability and process safety
  • Engineering oversight on the technical aspect of the Ceramic and Carbide manufacturing process
  • Utilization of productivity processes like Six Sigma, LEAN and Operational Excellence
  • Developing, testing and evaluating theoretical designs for Ceramic and Carbide manufacturing processes
  • Consulting with customers and internal groups on design and manufacturing parameters
  • Developing new products and specifications and updating current product offerings
  • Trouble shooting and solving complex atomization problems with manufacturing departments, sub-contractors, suppliers and customers
  • Managing Ceramic and Carbide manufacturing projects using engineering principles and techniques
  • Planning, designing and implementing new production processes
  • Developing equipment and process considering the implications of cost, safety, time and capital constraints
  • Monitoring and commissioning new process improvement and systems
  • Job Requirements
    • PhD in Inorganic Chemistry or Materials Science preferred – Master’s Degree in Inorganic Chemistry or Materials Science required

    • 3-5 years of experience in Materials analysis / methodology required

    • 3-5 years of Physical Chemistry experience required

    • Experience related to Powder manufacturing a plus

    • Candidates must demonstrate a track record of innovative thinking and technical accomplishments

    • Must be willing to travel 10-20% of the time

    • In addition, this individual must have strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a multidisciplinary environment

    • The ideal candidate will be able to interface with customers to resolve product/material related challenges
