Overview

The General Clerk follows clearly detailed procedures in performing simple repetitive tasks in the same sequence. This position requires familiarity with the terminology of the office unit. The General Clerk selects appropriate methods from a wide variety of procedures or makes simple adaptations and interpretations of a limited number of substantive guides and manuals. The clerical steps often vary in type or sequence, depending on the task. Recognized problems are referred to others.



Responsibilities

 Performs varied clerical duties in support of site operations. Little or no subject-matter knowledge is required, but the clerk must to choose the proper procedure for each task.  Follows a number of specific procedures in completing several repetitive clerical steps performed in a prescribed or slightly varied sequence, such as:

  • Coding and filing documents in an extensive alphabetical file
  • Simple posting to individual accounts, 
  • Opening mail, 
  • Running mail through metering machines, and calculating and posting charges to departmental accounts. 
  • Performs other related duties and assignments as required.


  • Qualifications

     MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school or GED Diploma required.  Some college preferred.
  • Certifications must be attained/maintained as assigned.
  • Candidate must be willing and able to work various shifts.
  • REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 years of directly related experience performing administrative clerical duties. 
  • Candidate must have excellent organizational skills, as well as excellent verbal and communication skills. Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word / Excel / PowerPoint / Project) is required.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s license 
  • Must be able to understand, speak, read and write English fluently.
  • Proof of U.S. residency 
  • MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:

  • Personal computer, printer, telephone, fax machine, scanner and other business-related, general office equipment.
  • WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Works in a general office environment. Exterior and interior work environments, sometimes in inclement weather.
  • PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Eyestrain and repetitive motion involved during peak periods of data input.  Work may require standing, walking, lifting, and carrying documents and other materials.  Work also requires the ability to perform the following physical activities to include, but not limited to: walking, standing, stooping, bending, twisting, crawling, reaching, lifting, sitting, squatting, walking, standing, sitting for extended periods of time. 
  • SECURITY CLEARANCE:

  • This position requires the candidate to obtain and maintain a position of public trust. In order to obtain this position, you must currently be a U.S. Citizen and U.S. Resident and be able to show proof of citizenship and residency.
