The Shipping and Receiving Manager manages the Manufacturing Plant Shipping and Receiving functions to ensure the raw material flow through the plant, and the finished goods flow out of the plant meets the requirements of the plant.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Oversees inbound production raw material delivery to the plant, this includes fresh perishable, frozen, and dry goods, to ensure materials are, labeled correctly, transactions completed accurately, and safety stored, in a timely fashion.
  • Ensures that raw materials needed for production are issued to the production lines JIT, and in the right quantity to ensure that the production lines do not run out of materials, and that all unused materials are properly counted and stored, and transactions are completed accurately and on time. 
  • Responsible to receive finished cases from the production lines and ensure that they are properly wrapped, and staged, and labeled for outbound shipment. 
  • Responsible to ensure that all Standard Work, and GMP’s are followed, to ensure that the production of our Food Products,  meet all Food Safety, and Quality, requirements. 
  • Manages the department staff to properly provide coverage for the plant material flow requirements over two production shifts and weekends as required.
  • Responsible to maintain the aging materials report for the perishable inventory items and work with the production scheduler to ensure that material are used on a first in, first out basing, and that aging materials are brought to the attention of the plant scheduler. 
  • Responsible to work with the Production Schedule, Shift managers and Production Scheduler to ensure that all materials needed for the plant startup are brought on site from the offsite warehouse and delivered to the production lines in time for startup. 
  • Ensures that all processes, and GMP’s are followed, and makes recommendations to improve processes. 
  • Oversees and maintains a safe working environment within the manufacturing facility. 
  • Ensures that plant GMP’s are followed and the plant equipment, cooler, freezer and racks are properly maintained, and that the sanitary requirements are maintained at all times. 
  • Uses Lean tools and techniques to drive continuous improvement and the development of Standard Work Practices. 
  • Creates and maintains metrics to ensure that the plant requirement are being met. 
  • Interfaces with all levels of management and supervision throughout plant and the corporation; in particular, Demand Manager and Operations Management. 
  • Establishes policies and procedures necessary to support a world class Manufacturing Plant. Communicates policies and procedures to the Shipping and Receiving staff.
  • Maintains an ongoing cycle count program to ensure and accurate inventory. 
  • Ensures that training and orientation for new employees is thorough and conducted in a timely fashion. 
  • Responsible for all performance management activities for his/her staff. 
  • Researches, develops and Implements long term cost, quality and process improvements to ensure success of the plants strategic plan. 
  • Implements new technology/ strategy to meet business and customer requirements. 
  • Must collaborate frequently and as a team with counterparts and peers across functions.
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

    The following represents supervisory responsibilities General supervision:  Supervises and directs the work of a department of two or more sections through subordinate supervisors.  Has responsibility for quality and quantity of work, costs, methods, maintenance, discipline, transfers, promotions, performance appraisals, and terminations.  Supervisory duties are generally varied and complex.

  • Proficiency with The plants ROSS (ERP), system to ensure that transactions are logged and verified. Supports all activities relating to the maintenance of Ross ERP System. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels within the organization and externally with customers and vendors.
  • EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Typically has a BS degree and seven to ten years of related experience or equivalent education and experience in a manufacturing plant shipping and receiving department.   Must have excellent written and verbal communication.
