Performs a variety of routine tasks. Prepares and cooks a limited number of hot food items for patients. Provides catering and cafeteria meal service and serves portions of hot food on patient tray assembly lines. Second Cooks must have more overall skill than Cooks and the highest level outcomes with minimal supervision.

Job Description Details:

Skills, Knowledge, Education, and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Knowledge and skills to perform the required cooking methods (e.g., baking, broiling, roasting, steaming, frying) equivalent to two years experience of institutional cooking.
  • Four years of experience in hospital food service preferred.
  • Two years of experience in restaurant cooking preferred.
  • Ability to operate any equipment used in food preparation.
  • Must be Serv-Safe or comparably certified in HACCP processes.
  • Must be able to disassemble and reassemble all kitchen equipment to be cleaned.
  • Competency in basic literacy skills including reading, oral and written communication and basic math skills required.


  • Essential Functions:
  • Meets Health System's Guiding Behaviors and Caring Standards including interpersonal communication and professional conduct expectations.
  • Prepares and stores food for patients, guests and the Early Learning Center according to accepted HACCP and UNICODE standards.
  • Works the point of sale areas with minimal supervision.
  • Performs cleaning procedures of food service equipment and work areas.
  • Supervises production staff in the absence of the Chef.
  • May be required to shuttle food products to off campus locations (if this is a requirement of the position, a driver's license record will be required and a valid Idaho Driver's License).
