Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the Plant Manager position in the operations department. We are looking for a highly driven individual that will plan, direct, and coordinate day-to-day activities of a manufacturing plant to obtain optimum efficiency and economy of operations and maximizes profits. Directs plant operations, production, and distribution of Valley Irrigation, personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Essential Functions/Duties:  

  • Demonstrates a commitment to driving the organization towards a world class safety environment.
  • Ensures compliance with all governmental laws concerning safety and environmental. Interacts with groups such as OSHA, Corporate Safety, Divisional Safety, etc.
  • Ensures that all company policies are followed in respect to department employee matters such as discipline, performance evaluations, promotions, and terminations.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to employee engagement process and monitoring the effects of those processes on morale and retention.
  • Partners with Valley U and Human Resources to design and implement a training and development program for the entire manufacturing organization.
  • Partners with Valley U and Human Resources to design and implement a welding expertise recruiting and development program that will make Valley the employer of choice for area welding talent.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to communication at all levels of the organization.  Conducts regular and thorough operations reviews with own staff, participates in Lean Daily Management activities, prepares and submits timely and accurate operations updates to senior management.
  • Coordinates activities and influences departments such as: Operations, Manufacturing, Engineering, Human Resources, Safety and Maintenance to improve operational efficiency and economy.
  • Design and Implement a quality program that will maintain our customer’s trust in the organization, with special emphasis on international - internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to achieving all customer delivery expectation metrics.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to executing the master production schedule, and the short and long term capacity plan.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to driving the organization towards a world class inventory management culture.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to driving a functional realignment of the organization towards a world class Lean organization, eliminating all wastes from the facility. (i.e. Scrap, rework, overtime, manufacturing variances, etc.)
  • What it takes

    Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Business Management or Engineering.
  • Ten (10) years of related experience and/or training
  • Proven managerial skills (previous management/supervisory related work history).
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel Applications
  • Five (5) years of practical, hands on, leadership experience in Lean Manufacturing

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to motivate others to work together toward common objectives.
  • Ability to develop plans and identify resources to achieve objectives, through both short and long range plans.
  • Ability to promote open participation and communication with the department and throughout the organization.
  • Ability to manage a variety of responsibilities in a timely, efficient manner.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Knowledge of advanced problem solving using data analysis and root cause and counter measure methodology.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt, Lean Certifications
  • Leadership in a metal fabrication environment
