Primary Function
Provide professional management and administration relating to all credit and credit related responsibilities matters including $150M of Accounts Receivable and $750M of open account sales. This involves continuous investigation and research designed to assist in formulating credit objectives, policies, plans and programs to ensure positive contributions to economic earnings and increased shareholder net worth. Also continued sales growth and profitability. Alignment to meet emerging business needs, keeping customer focus in tandem with Marketing, Sales and Branch Operations.



Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Manage the extension and administration of credit and collection to ensure compliance with company policy and legal statutes. The credit extension process may include local bank and trade references, prior history, sales recommendations, D&B reports, customer visits, and analysis of financial statements.

  • Manage exposure and mitigate risk for $750M of open account sales. 
  • Authority to extend Credit Limits to a single customer up to $500K.
  • Accountable for minimizing bad debt while not exceeding the $7M corporate plan.
  • This role is the local leadership presence for a centralized team of 9 Credit team members. 
  • Perform Customer Hierarchy maintenance for larger customers (especially the complex customers).
  • Drive sales support and profitable revenue growth: Support the Regional Credit Manager in engaging the Sales organization, internal business partners and Customers as a financial, business and problem-solving resource. Establish virtual relationships with the Sales organization, at all levels. 
  • Deliver expert and excellent customer service 
  • Responsible for consistency and efficiency throughout the entire region; lead the local activities of the regional Credit team and support development of individual responsibilities and strengths. Guide, encourage, and instruct the move toward greater empowerment. 
  • Foster, build and maintain teamwork to unify the goals of the regional credit team with the nationwide credit team, and those of the Company. 
  • Create a local environment in which Credit team members thrive


    Preferred Education & Experience

  • An undergraduate degree in business with a minimum of 5-7 years of progressive business experience is strongly preferred, with significant responsibility in finance, credit, collections, and process resolution. 
  • Professional credit credentials (CBA, CBF or equivalent) are required (or obtained within a reasonable time frame); as well as aspirations to pursue higher qualifications. 
  • A comprehensive understanding of business principals including accounting, credit and collections, financial statement analysis, banking and finance, commercial law, marketing, statistics, economics, human behavior and computer science.
  • Advanced ability to apply knowledge of accounting (GAAP) and finance (FASB). 
  • Premium value placed on ethics and integrity 
  • Ability to work effectively and develop relationships with all levels of management. 
  • Demonstrated writing/oral communication and presentation skills—effective across vertical/horizontal lines of organizational structures.

    Work Environment

  • Minimal travel is required; up to 10% travel may be necessary at times
  • Position is located in a Grainger centralized location


    This role is predicated on effective management of the Accounts Receivable portfolio, achieved through proper staffing, prudent control and good judgment, and will lead to growth of economic   earnings at Grainger. 

  • Manage exposure and mitigate risk for $750M of open account sales.  
  • Authority to extend Credit Limits to a single customer up to $500K. 
  • Accountable for minimizing bad debt while not exceeding the $7M corporate plan. 
  • With a potential of 500,000 customer accounts, initial credit investigation, timely credit limit reviews, and prompt collection procedures are essential to meeting financial objectives, while ensuring bad debt losses are kept to a minimum.
  • The credit program promotes business efficiency and profitability to the mutual benefit of our customers.

  • Customers, Existing and Potential:  Key account contacts which serve to promote customer goodwill and profitable credit sales.
  • Credit Services:  Knowledge and understanding of credit services such as D&B and Credit Risk Monitor.
  • Internally

  • Marketing & Sales:  Ensure that credit remains an integral part of regional and Company goals.  Assist in providing financial information used in developing market strategies and tactics, new contract opportunities, and customer service based strategies.
  • Ability to work effectively and develop vertical and horizontal relationships with management and across the entire Grainger enterprise.
  • Legal Department:  Contract counseling for unique customer terms consideration. Bankruptcy process.
