Sr. Manager, Consumer Insights

Vice President, Insights

SUMMARY

In this role, you will provide strategic insights and council to one of JM Smucker’s core business units, which includes dynamic and market-leading brands that are strong contributors to overall company performance.

The successful candidate will be a strong co-partner with the brand team to identify business and brand-building opportunities, the Marketing Services team to develop strategic marketing communications, R&D to ensure that product and packaging solutions deliver on consumer needs, and the Innovation team to uncover innovation platforms deliver on consumer, market, and brand opportunities.

This candidate will manage a team of Consumer Insights professionals and guide a learning plan with a robust budget.  S/he will collaborate across the Insights team to ensure that the full complement of consumer insights, shopper insights, and analytics are leveraged to develop compelling insights and implications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead strategy & insight work for the business unit, delivering forward-thinking and foundational insights that enable short-term and long-term business objectives.
  • Guide a team of insights professionals to achieve a high level of strategic partnership and influence with relevant cross-functional partners (Brand Marketing, Marketing Services, Innovation, R&D, etc.)
  • Partner with the Insights VP to ensure strategies and objectives of the Insights team are realized within the team and with business partners
  • Seek out innovative, best-in-class approaches to address business issues, leading to improved research tools, methods, and processes
  • Provide thought leadership and business council to senior-level marketing, innovation, and cross-functional leaders, by leveraging insights in a way that influences business strategy
  • Partner with Brand Marketing and Marketing Services to inform strategic plans, communications plans, portfolio strategy, and brand activation across a variety of business initiatives
  • Partner within the Insights team to leverage strategic research that will guide the identification of innovation whitespace opportunities
  • Provide deep consumer understanding to develop, optimize, and evaluate innovation opportunities
  • Partner within the Insights team to ensure that the total suite of consumer insights, shopper insights, and analytical capabilities are leveraged to address business questions in a holistic manner, connecting the dots and synthesizing content
  • Job Requirements

    Education

    • BA/BS degree required
    • MBA/advanced degree preferred

    Experience

    • At least 15 years of experience in consumer insights
    • Previous experience leading a team of insights professionals

    Other

    • Deep knowledge of custom research across a variety of methods
    • Strong ability to synthesize insights content across consumer insights, shopper insights, and analytics to tell a compelling story and formulate strategic plans
    • Strong consulting and influence skills
    • Strong communication skills with ability to take complex ideas and articulate them clearly & simply
    • High level of professional maturity
