The Protection Officer responds to all disturbances and requests for help in all areas of the medical center. Maintains a quiet and safe environment and provides a safeguard for all property belonging to the medical center, patients, visitors, physicians, and employees.

Job Description Details:

Skills, Knowledge , Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous security or military experience preferred.
  • American Heart Association HeartSaver AED or HeartSaver First Aid CPR AED Adult/Child/Infant certification required.
  • Private Security Certification in the State of Oregon required for Officers assigned to SAMC Ontario and SAMC Baker City.
  • Must maintain current Idaho Driver's license with no moving violation.
  • Able to operate motor vehicle, two-way radio, camera, and electronic surveillance equipment. Some basic computer skills required.
  • Able to interact on daily basis with public in regards to safety, visitor control, thefts, and any security problems that might arise.


  • Essential Functions:
  • Meets Health System's Guiding Behaviors and Caring Standards including interpersonal communication and professional conduct expectations.
  • Maintains a secured environment in disasters, fires and/or bomb threats.
  • Confronts strangers and either directs them to the proper area or escorts them off the medical center campus.
  • Conducts package inspection and checks property leaving the facility for proper authorization.
  • Reports vulnerable situations, hazards, and/or equipment malfunctions to the proper department or persons for corrective action.
  • Checks employee and service personnel for proper I.D.
  • To protect patients, visitors, and staff, Security staff may be required to physically restrain a person with the amount of force necessary for the protection of all persons involved in a combative situation.
