Job Description

Reports To: Director of Nursing/Administrator or Asst. Administrator



Primary Functions:

Under the direction of the Director of Nursing /Administrator, or Assistant Administrator evaluates patient's eligibility for ARJ programs, instructs patients and families in infusion therapy administration, and delivers direct patient care as required. Performs other duties as assigned.



Major Responsibilities:

  • Conducts initial nursing assessments and evaluations to qualify patients for appropriateness and safety of home infusion therapy, along with any other needed specialized nursing care
  • Trains patients and/or caregivers in all procedures and equipment
  • Develops and revises when necessary, the patient's plan of care with the patient, family, and physician
  • Visits all assigned patients as ordered, and documents patient's compliance, competence, and tolerance to prescribed therapy, interventions, and progress
  • Provides direct patient care as ordered and allowed by state law
  • Assumes on-call responsibility as assigned on intermittent basis
  • Inventories patient supplies and informs pharmacy of patients needs
  • Coordinates patient's care with other homecare agencies as necessary
  • Participates in in-services as requested
  • Assists in the marketing of ARJ products and services as needed
  • Participates in the identification of nursing PI indicators and the collection of data
  • ARJ would expect a Per Diem/Part-time Registered Nurse to make every attempt to provide nursing services for ARJ per request. This request may be made on short notice, but ARJ will make every effort to provide as much notice as possible
  • Hours may vary due to the nature of home infusion; weekend and evenings hours are required on an occasional basis.

  • Reporting/Documentation Requirements

  • Fulfills documentation requirements of ARJ per ARJ protocol
  • Medical treatment plans, physician certifications, and other required reimbursement documents
  • Provides other healthcare workers with feedback on all patients and gives suggestions for changes in procedure/protocols
  • Communicates the Patients Bill of Rights and Responsibilities to the patients and caregivers, obtains signatures on the Agreement for Services, consent, and other forms as required by law
  • Nursing PI indicators


  • Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years recent hospital or homecare experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in IV insertion, vascular access devices, and infusion pumps
  • Good patient teaching abilities with previous teaching/training experience related to infusion therapy
  • Demonstrated compliance in aseptic technique and Infusion skills
  • Accuracy in mathematical calculations
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong pediatric peripheral IV skills
  • Certified Nurse Infusionist (CRNI) preferred; once CRNI is attained, Infusion Nurse Specialist title may be deemed


  • Education Requirements:

  • Completion of accredited registered nursing program
  • Current CPR certification

  • Valid registered nursing license in state of Missouri
  • Valid driver's license and valid auto insurance
