The Innovation Engineering team hyper-focuses on innovative and disruptive technologies that enhance the GEOINT mission utilizing the GEOINT Solutions Marketplace platform. The GEOINT Solutions Marketplace (GSM) is a transparent online ecosystem that facilitates interaction between NGA, industry, academia and other solution providers. GSM is a repository for information about the NGA mission, vision and strategy, sample data, industry trends, which drive innovative GEOINT solutions to fill gaps in capabilities, meet future transformational goals and meet mission needs. The Innovation Engineering team is responsible for working with mission stakeholders to understand needs, pains and gains. Translate and post problems to elicit innovative solutions from industry and other GEOINT community stakeholders, communicating to industry through GSM and outreach. Innovation Engineers perform technical scouting for non-traditional, unique, innovative solutions through industry outreach and technical events (e.g. conferences, advocacy events) and through solution submissions to the marketplace. We perform technical and business case analysis of submitted solutions providing recommendations to stakeholders. Host large events that consist of open forum demonstrations and sessions between a large group of stakeholders and individual solutions providers focusing on how the solution performs and how it meets mission objectives.  

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Top Secret/SCI (Active SCI within 2 years; SSBI current within 5 years)
  • BS in Software Engineering, Comp Sci, Info Systems, Math, or related engineering, scientific or technical discipline
  • 1+ years of Systems Engineering/Integration or IT experience.
  • Strong verbal/written communications skills - Able to understand and explain mission, technical and programmatic issues clearly, accurately to leadership, commercial/industry, technical & non-technical audiences
  • Experience identifying/trouble-shooting/solving technical and non-technical problems reviewing related info to develop/evaluate options and impment solutions with minimal supervision and/or direction
  • Ability to identify, understand and communicate technology gaps in current capabilities & processes working with mission stakehodlers
  • Knowledge of commercial integration, technical market research, business intelligence or other related activity (e.g. IT, SOA, Cloud systems (e.g., Content/Data, Social Engineering (Virtual Collaboration), Analytics capabilities implementation)
  • Experience applying logic & reasoning to identify strengths & weaknesses of alternative technical approaches/solutions, Analysis of Alternatives, identifying innovative technologies

Desired Qualifications:

  • MS in Software Engineering, Comp Sci, Info Systems, Math, or related engineering, scientific or technical discipline
  • Relevant Software Development and Engineering (INCOSE, Agile) and Information Technology (ITIL) certifications
  • Experience in: Innovation mainstreaming model, Design Thinking, Lean Start-up, Business Model Canvas, agile acquisition and market technology analysis, IARPA/DARPA/IQT or DoD/Fed Gov S&T or R&D Center CR&D/IR&D
  • IT entrepreneurial venture capital market/process & Agile Lean Start-up knowledge; Extreme Prototyping methods
  • Experience in customer needs assessment, user persona templates, and leveraging of commercial techniques for evaluation of satisfaction measurement/metrics tools
  • Knowledge of the NGA and other IC and DoD IT architectures and mission applications, both ‘As-Is’ and ‘To Be’
