How you will contribute

Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for a Senior Accountant position in division/shared services environment in the Valley/Omaha, Nebraska area.  We are looking for a highly driven individual that will assist division Accounting management in monitoring compliance with policies and procedures for controlling the accounting functions of the division including accounting systems, internal controls, records, and reports as well as developing and maintaining process narratives for training and auditing purposes.  In this position, you will be responsible for monitoring and reconciling intercompany account activity, preparing and posting journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts to sub ledgers, identifying accounting process improvements, and producing monthly reconciliations and reports.  Additionally, you will perform accounting functions pertaining division month-end, quarter-end and year-end closings and provide support and assistance to the accounting staff at other Valmont locations, including research and problem solving.

Additionally, this individual will assist with the centralization design of certain accounting processes making a Project Manager certification ideal in this role.  You will be responsible for making sure timely and thorough preparation of financial records and reports for use by management and operating personnel at all levels are completed based on the requirements set by Corporate and the Coatings Division Controller. These records must comply with generally accepted accounting principals (GAAP), governmental regulations, taxing authorities and the policies and procedures of the company. Accuracy in working with numbers, high attention to detail, and intermediate accounting skills are essential skills needed for this position.  The incumbent will have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Mfg-Pro (QAD), Visual Shop, FAS, and Hyperion systems.  Other responsibilities include:

  • Prepare and maintain accounting system instructions.
  • Prepare and maintain division accounting policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and post standard and miscellaneous general ledger journal entries to QAD.
  • Assist with loading and balancing trial balances from division locations into the HFM financial consolidation system.
  • Maintain and distribute monthly financial status reports from site general management to senior division management.
  • Monitor for unusual accounting and report and issues/concerns with site accountants and the Controller to ensure proper handling, consistent application, and adherence to GAAP.
  • Give recommendations for continuous improvement of products, processes and services and measurement of same to make efficient use of company resources.
  • Assist with reviewing Balance Sheet account reconciliations in Blackline to make the support equals the account balance and adequate support for the balance.
  • Assist with intercompany reconciliations.  Using the HFM intercompany report, identify and resolve any differences that exist between Valmont divisions/sites.

    Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting (from an accredited college or university)
  • 3-5 years of experience at a Senior Accountant level
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets
  • Willingness and interest in finding ways to improve processes
  • Proficiency working with all types of systems
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing process improvements and high attention to detail
  • Passion for documenting processes with a demonstrated background of spearheading, or taking a lead role, in doing this in another organization  
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • Ability to get along and work well with others
  • Travel 20% (North America) including ability to rent/drive rental vehicles for company business
  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
  • Highly qualified candidates will also possess:

  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing philosophy, including standard work creation, Value Stream Mapping, root cause analysis, process improvement, etc.
  • Project Manager Certification
