Ensures compliance to internal manufacturing instructions and procedures by monitoring and recording through Observer and Quality reports all activities related to the hot forging of metals. A detailed knowledge of shop flow and familiarity with metallurgical process control parameters is required, and must be able to operate, program or monitor associated equipment. Assists forge shop crews as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties and responsibilities include the following; other duties may be required and assigned at any time.
Read and interpret drawings and internal manufacturing instructions, and complete attendant paperwork.
Operate large forging furnaces, including inspection for accurate readings and furnace chart printouts. Legibly complete detailed observer reports, record data on furnace charts and furnace loading diagrams and associated documentation, and file such documentation for long term archival as appropriate.
Raise Quality Error Reports on observing a process or procedural deviation.
Assist in stamping for identification of hot forged product and verify legibility of same after application to the forgings. Apply forging lubricant to metal being rolled/forged, assist in tooling change-overs. Visually and dimensionally inspect hot forgings to verify compliance.
Be familiar with all phases of hot work manufacturing.
Ability to access and operate a forklift or manipulator to approved O.S.H.A standards.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED and one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, drawings and specifications, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Ability to write detailed reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of co-workers.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
