Position Purpose:
Under the supervision of the Medical Director and department leadership, the Employee Health Nurse administers the employee health and workers' compensation program for Saint Alphonsus Medical Center (SAMC) Ontario and provides support to SAMC - Nampa and Baker City. The primary functions of the health nurse are to focus on promotion and restoration of health, prevention of illness and injury, and protection from workplace hazards. The Employee Health Nurse identifies educational needs related to promotion of safety, health, and risk prevention.

Job Description Details:

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Must possess a current Oregon R.N. license and, must possess a current Idaho R.N. license within 6 months of employment. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; Bachelor's degree in Nursing is preferred. Current Occupational Health Nurse certification is desirable.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support for HealthCare Provider (BLS/HCP) certification required.
  • Two years acute care experience.
  • Intermediate computer & typing skills including Internet, MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) and Outlook. Experience with Occupational Health manager software preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to interact with colleagues in a professional and caring manner.


  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Meets medical center's Guiding Behavior and Caring Standards including excellent interpersonal communication skills and professional conduct expectations.
  • Maintains knowledge of local, state and federal regulations as they pertain to employee health and workers' compensation. Assists department leaders with compliance when requested and/or when a documented need is identified.
  • Administers post-offer health assessments including evaluation of current health status and detailed medical history.
  • Evaluates immunization history to determine vaccine needs and administers CDC recommended healthcare worker vaccinations.
  • Collaborates with Infection Preventionists on colleague communicable disease/infection control issues. Provides post-exposure evaluation/consultation and surveillance to colleagues. Conducts tuberculosis surveillance and appropriate follow-up of positive results.
  • Assists with management of workers' compensation claims.
  • Accurately documents and maintains the employee health records and ensures confidentiality of all colleague files.
  • Evaluates colleagues who become ill or injured at work, manages the electronic incident report, and assists in investigation and coordination of treatment and follow-up care.
  • Collaborates with the safety officer and makes recommendations on worksite safety.
  • Assists with management of the return-to-work program for colleagues who are placed on modified work duty by their provider.
  • Facilitates or conducts fit for duty assessments, drug screening, and medical surveillance and monitoring as necessary.
  • Collaborates on management of the Respiratory Protection program.
  • Collaborates with teams on achieving corporate colleague safety initiatives.
  • Provides education to colleagues related to aspects of health and wellness.
  • Is responsible to update and communicate employee health related policies and procedures to colleagues and leadership.

  • Performs employee health duties in order to facilitate department goals and objectives.
