Primary Purpose:
The National Commodity Specialist (NCS) is responsible for managing the design, development, implementation, management and support of non-production material strategic sourcing plans for a set of products and/or services that are utilized nationally across various Daimler U.S. sites and locations. The NCS will provide leadership from a procurement perspective, and influence business partners to consider new and creative strategies.
 
 
Essential Functions:  (List all basic responsibilities related to the purpose of the position)
Develop and manage national sourcing strategy (including the creation and maintenance of supplier list by commodity), drive cost optimization initiatives through design, competitive leverage, insourcing / outsourcing, process improvements.
 
Build the organization's competitive position through continuous improvement in cost, quality and overall supplier value.
 
Develop, lead and execute project plans for the assigned commodities to provide transparency, act as a communication liaison with stakeholders and keep projects on track.
 
Deliver a sourcing strategy designed to meet the dynamic requirements of the business.
 
Develop subject matter expertise recognized by business partners at all U.S. entities, and a valued member of the team.
 
Responsible for all tactical and strategic supplier management activities, including strategic understanding of supplier markets and technology trends, supplier selection and sourcing process management, price control and negotiations.
 
Develop, negotiate, and implement supply agreements based on continuous improvements in all areas of the business.
 
Conduct regular supplier performance and strategy reviews with stakeholders, establish improvement expectations and follow up on progress.
 
Closely work with stakeholders to identify and introduce new supplier technologies and advancements in materials, services, processes, equipment to build competitive advantage for the company by reducing cost, improving quality and/or shortening product development lead time.
 
 

Job RequirementsQUALIFICATIONS: Education, Experience and Necessary Skills all must be met in order to qualify for position.
 
Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Logistics, Engineering or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
     
Experience: 6-8 years of procurement experience.  
 
Necessary Skills, Certifications, etc.:  
Must be able to perform duties with moderate to low supervision.
Strong business acumen balanced with technical aptitude.
Drive for results.
Excellent interpersonal (verbal and written) communication and presentation skills are required to support working in project environments that includes internal, external and customer teams.
Requires strong analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, and assess and adjust quickly to changing priorities.
Experience influencing stakeholders across a wide and complex international organization.
Ability to exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results, and ensuring that project goals, schedules and performance requirements are achieved.
Willingness to travel  (10% - 25% depending on commodity).
Proficient Microsoft Office Skills.
Procurement experience in the areas of negotiations, complex contracting, stakeholder management and sourcing strategy development preferred.
