Registered Nurse Educator for Surgical Services
Full-Time Days/ No Weekends

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Surgical Services; administers, organizes and conducts training and education programs, using different styles of teaching, in connection with employee orientation, mandatory safety training, and in-services within the various surgical services units.  Maintain records of training activities and employee progress, and monitors effectiveness of programs.  Designs and develop in-house programs.  Perform other duties as assigned.

Specific Job Functions:
  • Participate in the attainment of departmental goals involving staff education and competency, orientation and preceptor development, and professional practice development.
  • Develop a competency based orientation plan for all surgical services’ employees. 
  • Plan, implement and monitor a variety of educational programs based on departmental standards (AORN, ASPAN, AAMI, ASGE, and AAACN), infection control requirements, quality initiatives, the clinical staff’s identified learning needs, competency deficiencies and performance improvement findings. Incorporates patient safety goals into educational programs.
  • Maintain program files, keep accurate records, and complete reports as necessary.
  • Evaluate educational programs through formal and informal mechanisms, shares results with management.  Recommends new courses or improvements based on feedback received.
  • Determine existing opportunities, curriculum, policies and procedures, and conduct informal and formal program need/opportunity assessments for multiple professional development tracks.
  • Participate in hospital –wide and interdepartmental committees and department projects as directed.
  • Assign courses and obtains completion reports on Health Stream.
  • Demonstrate commitment to personal and professional development by seeking education opportunities and experiences to expand current knowledge base.
  • Take initiative to organize, manage, and prioritize multiple demands and projects efficiently, and to complete assignments in a meticulous and timely manner.
  • Serve as a clinical resource to staff and students.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Collaboratively works with management to hold staff accountable to comply with identified best practice.
  • Maintain working knowledge of current trends and programs involved with professional development education.

  • Job RequirementsExperience:
    • 3 to 7 years of Nursing Experience Required
    • Leadership experience 
    • Direct job experience is preferred
    Lincensure and Certifications:

    • New Hampshire State License or Valid Compact State License
    • ACLS
    • BLS
    • Windows, Hospital Systems

    • Bachelors Degree
