The Electrical Designer creates and establishes simple designs consistent with good practices, client requirements and conformance to Codes & Standards. Designers apply standard drafting techniques to generate and interpret drawings in support of assigned projects in accordance with all established Company and client design standards and practices.
Generates design and detail drawings to support Engineer Leads on existing and new facilities.
Interacts and coordinates with other departments and suppliers to obtain pertinent information.
Performs field surveys to identify site conditions.
Performs code reviews and ensures compliance.
Prepares electrical calculations including electrical load calculations, conduit and electrical system sizing, and equipment capacity.
Manages and maintains the Project Documentation.
5 – 10 years of experience in energy, oil & gas, or chemicals industries.
Associate Degree in a technical discipline or equivalent is a plus.
Highly proficient with AutoCAD as it pertains to the preparation of electrical drawings; knowledge of Bentley AutoPLANT, Microstation and Revit is a plus.
Knowledge of medium and low voltage power distribution is required; knowledge of transmission and distribution (T&D) is a plus.
Able to layout electrical systems; expected to have a thorough understanding of electrical system installation in general purpose areas as well as in explosion proof areas, including substations, lighting and power layouts, conduits, cable trays, undergrounds, single lines, motor control centers, motor schematics, panel boards, lighting schedules and heat trace.
Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and adhere to new standards and technical requirements.
Demonstrated ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects.
Able to work as part of a design team in a collaborative environment.
Working knowledge of Codes and Standards.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
Overtime may be necessary as workload’s dictate. This may include weekdays, weekends and/or holidays.
In some cases, the site working environment may include outside conditions and exposure to high temperatures.
May require extended overnight travel to another client location/facility or the home office.
Conditions will vary at each location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply.
When working outside Middough’s office, appropriate safety training and safety equipment will be provided by Middough and/or Client, as required.
