Job Description

Do you enjoy helping people but are not a licensed caregiver? A career as a Patient Care Technician may be for you! No experience is necessary and Regional Health will provide you with all of the required training.

A Patient Care Technician at Rapid City Regional Hospital is also called a PCT. Other common names for this position are Certified Nurses' Assistant, Nurse Aide, or Personal Care Assistant. A PCT is under the direct supervision of a nurse and is responsible for the direct patient care needs in the hospital.

Hours: PRN

Shifts: Varied/rotating shifts including weekends

Duties that can be expected during your shift would be:

  • Bathing, toileting and catheter care
  • Assistance with meal feeding and walking
  • Answering call lights
  • Changing soiled linens
  • Relaying important information to the nurse
  • Documenting patient information on electronic medical records 
  • Requirements:

    High School Diploma/GED Equivalent required

    Certified Nurse Aide preferred, but not required

    Physical Demands: Lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time, with frequent lifting or carrying of objects. Work Hours: We offer a very flexible schedule in the float pool for our staff. A minimum of sixteen hours in a two week period is required. Four, eight and/or twelve hour shifts are available. There is no weekend or holiday requirement, although this is typically when students are able to get hours in.
