Responsible for the supervision of all nursing staff and patient care activities on the assigned shift, towards the achievement of excellence in patient care.
Supervise all clinical care, including use of behavioral and physical interventions, in conjunction with the in-house psychiatrist.
Act as a clinical resource for staff and perform direct clinical care as needed.
Effectively manage psychiatric, medical and facility emergencies in conjunction with the in-house psychiatrist to achieve the safest possible outcome. Monitor compliance with requirements for MD orders, face-to-face assessments and progress notes for episodes of restraint/seclusion.
Identify and document all special problems or risk issues and take action to resolve problems or reduce risk.
Assure nightshift RN rounds & high risk assessments are completed.
Screen, assess, triage and approve admissions in consultation with the in-house psychiatrist.
Monitor and protect patient rights, assuming the role of advocate as appropriate.
Manage nursing staffing resources so as to provide effective and safe nursing care in a cost-effective manner.
Assess educational needs of staff and collaborate with the Nurse Manager and Directof of Professional Education to meet those needs.
Act as a first line clinical back-up to PHP programs.
Five (5) years of psychiatric nursing experience.
Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
Registered Nurse in the state of Connecticut.
Computer proficiency and keyboarding skills required.
Strong organizational skills required
Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
