Job Description Primary Purpose of the job:
  • This is a hands on technical position responsible for planning and executing Additive Manufacturing (AM) process development research projects supporting growth opportunities for Arconic in AM.
  • The selected individual will be responsible for metal additive process development based on powder bed platforms utilizing powder melting, sintering, fusion and bonding and must have a strong theoretical and working knowledge of these processes.
  • This position requires a broad understanding of materials, design, product development as well as additive post processes such as machining, heat treatment and finishing technologies.
  • The ability to influence outcomes and work within multidisciplinary teams to achieve the desired outcomes is a key accountability
  • Major Activities/Key Challenges:
  • Plans and executes projects that support technology-based business opportunities on metal additive powder bed platforms
  • Documents and reports project progress and make data based recommendations and decisions.
  • Links process developments to materials and properties and identifies opportunities for differentiation.
  • Identifies novel technologies and approaches that influence processes, materials development, design and manufacturing of end-products.
  • Recommends and advances areas for key process development to improve understanding and create IP.
  • Maintains linkages internally and externally to insure best resources and approaches are used.
  • Monitors and assesses competitive threats and emerging technologies.
  • Essential Knowledge & Skills/Education:
  • Experience in powder based additive manufacturing process research and technology development
  • Experience with additive manufacturing process simulation and impact on microstructures and properties
  • Experience with aluminum, titanium and nickel material based systems
  • Ability to use basic statistical methods to design experiments and analyze results.

  • Masters Degree in Science or Engineering, from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience with additive manufacturing of metals using laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF), electron beam melting (EBM), selective laser sintering (SLS) or binder jet printing
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree focus in Materials, Mechanical, Metallurgical or Welding Engineering/Science strongly preferred
