JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for being knowledgeable of the geographical area assigned and operate the vehicle within state / federal statues and/or guidelines.  Perform responsibilities in the most efficient and effective manner saving time, money and complying with The Salvation Army’s policies and procedures.

Acquires pick-up tickets and organize route in the most time efficient and fuel efficient manner.

Picks up donations from the various locations.

Loads donations on the trucks in the most organized manner possible to enable as many pickups as possible on each truck load.

Loads donations in an orderly and secure manner to minimize potential damage/breakage to donated merchandise.

Clean and secure the vehicle and equipment; conducts daily inspections of the vehicle's oil, water, tires, and other items of the vehicle to maintain good operating condition.

Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.

Maintain a positive working atmosphere by acting and communicating in a professional manner that will establish and promote a professional working relationship with vendors, donors, customers, beneficiaries, co-workers and management.

Employees in this position must meet all DOT requirements for vehicles associated with this position at all times.

Performs other job-related responsibilities and tasks (other than those stated in this job description) when directed by management.

Job RequirementsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED preferred but not required and one year of experience driving a heavy-duty truck or large van or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of Truck Driver – Production Assistant.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Valid Chauffeurs License

Valid DOT Medical Card

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of assigned geographical area.

Ability to organize pick-up tickets and to schedule route in a manner that saves time and fuel.

Ability to work effectively and efficiently with a variety of personalities.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.

Ability to read and follow a map and/or hand-written directions.

Ability to drive a heavy-duty truck.

Ability to successfully work with a variety of personalities and people in a positive manner. 

Moderate amount of strenuous physical effort required associated with sitting, walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, and carrying heavy objects (generally over 100 lbs.) 25-75% of work time. 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work requires driving a vehicle with exposure to the outdoors where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like.
